7639 Lance Corporal in 2nd Bn, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). Commemorated on panels 15 & 16 of the Le Touret Memorial, no known grave. He is also mentioned on the war memorial in Bowling (the next village along from Old Kilpatrick towards Dumbarton).

Milton Man Killed
"Word has just been received by Mrs W. Kemp of the death of her grandson, Lance-Corporal William Kemp, 2nd Scottish Rifles, who was killed in action on 11th January [1915]. He joined the Army twelve years ago last October, and was only 28 years. Born in the village of Milton, Dumbarton, he was much esteemed by all who knew him."
